Morning Skies

After the storms from Monday night I left for work on Tuesday to this gorgeous sky. I didn't realize how bad the wind was over the night until I saw our garage roof. One piece of tin was pulled up and twisted.

Wednesday Ramblings

Randoms of the week:
- Tonight is my last night of class. I am so excited to get it over with!

- With work picking up the last month and even more so now, I still have yet to bowl. :( I'm a little bummed about it, but there will always be other times.

- Mike and I got our colors picked out for the house. Planning to pick it up this weekend. I'm so glad he is letting me decorate the house how I want it. I feel bad and ask for his opinion, but it's always the same "yea that looks good... I really don't care as long as I have somewhere to put my stuff". ;) And on a plus note for Mike, I hate girly decor.

- Found a new store here in Rolla. It's called Factory Connection over by the old Goody's Store. The store is like a smaller version of TJMaxx minus the home section. Have American Eagle clothes, Hurley, Tapout, etc. Most of the clothing for American Eagle were too small, but they do have jeans for $21.95!!!!

Sorry my list is very short. Between the house and work, that's been it for me the past few weeks.

Weekend Recap

Well my weekly blog post may be sparse the next month or so. I will try my best to do at least one weekly post, but we shall see how that goes. The reason is work has went from busy to extremely hectic. I am now the only person doing a 3 man job. On a plus note I got a raise over it and I could use the extra money from overtime for the house.

Friday I worked till 7 p.m. so I just stayed home that evening.

Saturday mom and I went to town to do a little shopping for my house. Didn't really find anything, but I did finish up buying all my cleaning supplies. That evening Mike and I stayed home and watched the Mizzou game.

Sunday I slept in. After mom got home from church we decided to go back into town so she could take a few things back. That afternoon I got ready to meet Danielle and Ashlie for the Miranda Lambert, Eric Church and Josh Kelley Concert. I was shocked at how many people I knew in the pits. The pits in my opinion is definitely the way to go when seeing a concert. I loved the concert and didn't want it to end.

Wednesday Ramblings

Well Mike and I are in the home stretch to our getting our first home. We can almost say we can check off insurance from our to-do list. We received two prices quotes and awaiting on another, the comparison between the first two was a no brainer. I couldn't believe one quote was literally double the amount of the other one.

I believe the move will go quickly once we get in there and get all the painting done. Would like for the painting to be done before we officially move in.

The only thing I have been dreading since the thought of moving is my antique hutch. It's very fragile and I would hate to see the original amber glass break or worse the whole thing fall apart. It will need a lot of attention during the move and handled with lots of care!

(There may be a future post in store for my hutch, if only I can remember to take a picture of it first!)

Blog

A friend recommended I go to this blog last week of a Missouri mother. She is expecting her 4th child in December. Baby Ella has been diagnosed with Anencephaly, a neural tube defect that isn't compatible with life. She isn't expected to survive outside the womb. I cannot imagine the emotional roller coaster this amazing woman and her family has to go through during this time. Here is her story from the beginning if you want to check it out:

I will be praying for her family during this difficult time in their life.

Weekend Recap

Sorry I'm a day late. Work has been very hectic the past few weeks.

Friday I finally headed to St. Elizabeth. I was a little unsure if I knew my way there since it had been a month. ;) Between weddings and molasses our weekends have been booked. Mike had to bowl so our evening was spent at the bowling alley. Most people don't realize a small town like St. Elizabeth has a bowling alley. It's only 4 lanes, but works perfect for their leagues.

Saturday I headed home early so I could help mom watch the Allen boys. It had been awhile since we saw them so it's always a treat to spend quality time with them. Mom had taken Blake with her to a family reunion and I stayed home with a very sleepy baby, Nathan. He must love mom's couch, as he laid there literally 40 minutes (no exaggeration) after his nap watching the clock and looking towards the window at the leaves falling. Every little bit he would pop his little head up and smile at me then laid back down. It was cute. Spent the rest of the evening enjoying the boys and watching them play together.

Sunday Mike and I headed to St. Elizabeth to his grandma's house before heading to church, a routine/tradition Mike does every Sunday. After church, Mike and I along with his uncle Junior, friend Dale, his wife and daughter headed to St. Anthony to the Fall Dinner. It was a perfect day for it and the food was very good. That afternoon it was too nice to stay inside so we took a long four wheeler ride before heading to a friends house to watch him put a hitch on Mike's brother Randy's truck. Spent the rest of the day watching miss Kylie drive the tractor in the field with Randy, she was pretty proud of herself. Ate dinner and came back to my house to watch our favorite show, Desperate Housewives.

New Jacket

I've been searching for a military style jacket and finally found one I liked at Maurices. Wasn't sure if I wanted to spend the money but knew I needed one, plus I received an email from Maurices that they were offering 1¢ shipping for each item. 1¢ shipping didn't have to twist my arm too much, I love it!

Class

Well between not being able to save our work each time and having two senior citizens in the class it's been very slow and hectic all at the same time. I am learning the basics, but in a way I feel cheated since what takes a minute, takes us 10-15 minutes so the teacher can reteach every single step to the old folks. I feel bad for being age discriminating towards them, but they barely know the basics of a computer. Hopefully next week will get better, but I don't see that happening. On a positive note, I have learned the basics and I've been working ahead while the teacher is reteaching them step by step. Makes me feel more confident in myself knowing I can go on with little to no help in QuickBooks.

Wednesday Ramblings

Last night I washed my car by hand. It was getting extremely dirty and I was a little embarrassed I let it get that bad. Driving an SUV or Crossover, you tend to attract more dead bugs than I did when I had a car. I had remembered an email I got about how a dryer sheet gets the bugs off. So I decided what the heck I will give it a shot and voila it worked like a charm!

Weekend Recap

My whole weekend pretty well consisted of the same thing - working at Iron Works in St. James. Every year my whole family goes to help with our molasses making. It still seizes to amaze me at how people think it's so neat and can stand there for hours just staring at the cane juice cooking. I guess since I am used to it, it's old news to me.

I did the usual of pouring the hot molasses into the jars whereas mom dealt with the customers and taking the money. People always asks the same question, "Why don't you have molasses already made up to sell?". Well let me tell you if we could, we most certainly would. We never seem to make enough. As soon as one batch is poured it's all sold within minutes if not seconds.

It's a very LONG process especially for my dad, brothers and other workers who have to strip each sugar cane by hand with a machete, the cane then gets squeezed into our press which is powered by our mules pulling a sweet pole, and then to spend several hours over the hot pan filled with sugar cane cooking down to make molasses. We made about 14-16 batches of molasses over the weekend.

It was a good family weekend spent creating new memories with my grandma and grandpa Feeler. As we all cherish it every year!

Wednesday Ramblings

Well Mike and I are getting closer to moving into our house. We're still uncertain of an exact time line whether it's the beginning, middle or end of November. Fortunately since I've been living in the basement at my parents house for almost 6 years now, I have the basic cooking items. So that helps out a lot with the buying process of our house of what we need.

Here is a list of wants or needs left to go in making our house a home! ;)
1. Deep Freezer - Can wait on purchasing one, but it will become a need since we are butchering our own beef this winter.
2. Paint - Plan to buy that very soon, it's definitely a want but in my opinion also a need to make our house personalized just for us. Plan to paint the living room, master bedroom and main bathroom.
3. Vacuum - It will become a need, but something we can live without if we have to for awhile. May end up borrowing one if it comes down to it, we will only have the two bedrooms and area rug in the living room to vacuum.
4. Insurance for the house - Most definitely a need, plan to have this in progress by the end of this month.
5. Storage bins - I am obsessed with them in keeping everything organized. I would like at least two more before we move - perhaps a need and would love to purchase storage totes for my closet - a want.
6. Part of making our house ours, we are thinking about replacing the lights over the island in the kitchen. Again this is a want and something that doesn't have to be bought now. Best of all I've found the lighting at Lowe's, finally something my taste likes and so does my pocket. So they're not expensive to replace the old lights.

That's all for now... I could spend all day writing down my wants for the house but my check book is telling me to stop at #6. :)

Weekend Recap / Week Ahead

Saturday I picked up my friend, Malinda before heading to the wedding for Kara and Aaron. The wedding was a beautiful. Once again another great wedding weekend of catching up with everyone I don't regularly get to see.

Sunday dad and I got stuck in a movie, Man of Fire starring Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning. It was too good of a movie, lasted three hours which meant our "productive day" was put on hold. Even though we have DVR, it was too intense to leave the screen. Afterward I mowed the yard, a little excited that this could be the last time mowing for the year or perhaps EVER. :) But I was quickly informed that I am more than welcome to mow after work next year each week. For those of you who know my mom knows she is sort of banned from mowing - from hitting stobs to catching our last mower on fire last year with the leaves. Sorry mom you know I couldn't resist tattling on you! :) For supper dad BBQ-ed pork steaks and mom fixed potato salad, deviled eggs and spinach since we were out of the traditional BBQ side dish - baked beans!

Tonight - Going to my aunt Judy's for pizza, cake and ice cream for my cousin Ashlyne's 14th birthday.

Tuesday - No plans. Had debated on setting out my fall decor. I'm leaning more towards opting out since it's packed away for the move.

Wednesday - My night class begins.

Thursday - No plans.

Friday - Most likely St. Elizabeth since I believe Mike bowls.

Saturday & Sunday - Working at Iron Works in St. James with our molasses making.

Ladies Night

Here is a small clip of the event last night, Lipstick & Purse-N-Ality. They always do a great job with their runway shows. I was a little bummed I didn't stay for the whole thing, but allergies have got the best of me this week. The location was so much better than I thought it would be at the Christian Life Center.
